Terpenes compounds found in the cannabis plant. The levels of the different compounds depends on the genetics of the plant itself. There are over 7,000 strains of cannabis which are always growing at a extraordinary rate. Consequently by the time you read this post, the figure is bound to be outdated.
Terpenes
Although, found in cannabis, they are not restrcited to cannabis. For instance in some plants, terpenes attract pollinators. While in other plants, they cause a strong reaction to repel predators, such as insects or foraging animals. In addition, there are many factors that influence a plant’s development of terpenes. However, within the cannabis plant, there has been over 100 different terpenes have been identified. Subsequently, cannabis strains tends to have it’s own unique terpene type & composition. In other words, a strain like Cheese & its descendants will likely have a discernible cheese-like smell.
Terpenes may also play a key role in differentiating the effects of various cannabis strains. But to understand the extent we need some more studies. Caryophyllene
Caryophyllene is a pale yellow oily liquid with an odor midway between odor of cloves and turpentine. Above all this is the only terpene that acts as a cannabinoid.
